Elizabeth Haney
Elizabeth Pennington is the third child of Carroll Austin and Fay Buckley Pennington, born August 22, 1961 in Mesa, Arizona. She passed away on January 10, 2017. She is survived by her father, Carroll; her brother, Keith Pennington (Alyson) and sister, Serena Stewart (Brian); her husband, Brad Haney; her children, Joshua Haney, Jenna Foote (Dillon), Sarah Kishpaugh (Jason), Mariah Haney and Emma Haney, and her four grandchildren: Audrey, Carson and Clara Foote, and Ivy Kishpaugh. Elizabeth grew up in Patagonia and Tempe, Arizona. At a young age, she learned to play the piano and continued to play beautifully throughout her life. She graduated from McClintock High School in 1979. She served an honorable LDS church mission in the Costa Rica San Jose Mission from 1982 – 1984 and became fluent in Spanish. After her mission, she attended Brigham Young University where she dated Brad Haney. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on January 2, 1985. Elizabeth and Brad raised their five children in Mesa, Gilbert and Queen Creek, Arizona. Elizabeth was a dedicated stay-at-home mother who taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ. She supported her children’s educational and musical endeavors, encouraging them each to study music. She also continued to be a stalwart missionary, sharing the gospel with everyone she knew – even in Spanish when necessary. She was the “life of the party” with a great sense of humor, and she was a friend to everyone. Later, Elizabeth resumed her studies at BYU and completed her Bachelor of General Studies degree in April 2012. She showed that it’s never too late to finish what you start as she persevered through her rigorous coursework while still raising her three youngest daughters at home. In January 2015, Elizabeth was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. She endured her difficult disease with patience and grace, always holding firm to her faith in God’s plan for her. She serves as an example of strength and faithfulness to all who know and love her.
