Louis "Luigi" Camilli

Louis (Luigi) Camilli, born in Ithaca, New York on January 1, 1932 to Adolpho and Lucia Camilli was the first baby born in Ithaca that year. Lou, 87, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2019 at home in Sun City, Arizona surrounded by family.

Lou enlisted in the army during the Korean war and was stationed in Mendenhall, England. He was honorably discharged after a 3 year term. Upon return to Ithaca, he trained in television repair and owned a TV repair shop. Eventually he decided to pursue a career in carpentry.

Lou left Ithaca for sunny California where he pursued all aspects of carpentry for several years. He became a superintendent for a large company and used to say, "Wherever you stand in southern California, I built or remodeled a building near you!"

He subsequently retired to Sun City, Arizona, where he spent his retirement years continuing to happily pursue his hobbies which included: fishing, boating, hunting, camping, cooking, square dancing, traveling, oil painting, photography, and fixing anything that you could imagine. He was an all-around guy who always lent a helping hand to his friends, neighbors and even strangers at times. He was an incredible man and will be missed dearly!

He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Lucia Camilli, and his two brothers, Frank Camilli and John Camilli. He is survived by his wife Janet Camilli, and seven children: LuAnn Kucera, Frank Pettinato, Adolph Camilli, Vicki Monroe, Sandee McGee, Cindy Pettinato and Cara Camilli. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His family will be holding a memorial service in his honor January 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona (23029 N Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ, 85024) followed by a celebration of life.
