Mary Rupert
Mary Clare Filsinger Rupert (93) of Mesa, Arizona passed away December 20, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born October 18, 1931 in Pittsburg, PA to Fredrick R and Rosalia M (Klein) Filsinger.
Mary was a servant of the lord, a devout catholic, a loving mother, grandma and great grandma. Mary's service to others was evident throughout her life, serving as a nurse at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital for almost 50 years. Mary also spent many of her days serving the parish of St. Edward’s in Tempe as a Eucharistic minister and taking care of the parish linens. In her spare time, she loved to sew and could frequently be found listening to Perry Como while creating children’s clothes and offering them to those in need.
Along with her devout service and love of our Lord, Mary was a loving mother, raising her two daughters independently after the death of her husband in 1967. Mary paired adventure with discipline, providing a safe, nurturing home for daughters to grow. Mary was also an incredibly present grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary never missed a birthday, graduation, or other meaningful event, including traveling to Indiana at 92 years old to help select her granddaughter’s wedding dress. She loved her kids and was a true example of the Lord’s love.
Mary is survived by her daughters Susan D Hansen (Don) of Lakeside, AZ and Rebecca A Heffron (John) of Gilbert, AZ, grandchildren Lindsay Heffron of Whitestown, IN and soon to be married to Colin Griffin, Brock Heffron of Gilbert, AZ, Blake Heffron in college at University of Dubuque in Iowa and Josh Hansen of Lakeside, AZ, great grandchildren Shelby Hansen and Jason Hansen.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Phillip M Rupert, brothers Joseph Filsinger and Edwin Filsinger and grandson, Hans V Hansen.
A memorial Requiem Mass will be held Monday, December 23rd at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mesa, AZ at 1:00 pm followed by A Celebration of Life at 2:30pm in the activity room at Discovery Point Community, Mesa, AZ.
