Michael Loren "Mike" Agler


Michael Loren "Mike" Agler, 79, passed away on July 30, 2024, in Glendale, Arizona.


Mike was born on June 1, 1945, in Winfield, Kansas to Loren and Nita Agler, and grew up in Perryton, Texas. He graduated from Perryton High School in 1964 and went on to attend West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. In 1966, he joined the United States Army and served honorably in the Vietnam War. After two years of service abroad, he was honorably discharged and returned home to Perryton.


Upon his return, Mike met the love of his life, Katrina Lilly. They began dating on August 27, 1968, and knew from that moment they would spend their lives together. Six months later, on February 14, 1969, they were married. Their journey together took them to Amarillo, Texas, where they welcomed their first child, Michael Ryan Agler, on January 3, 1972. They later moved back to Perryton and celebrated the birth of their second child, Courtney Dee Neal Agler, on February 22, 1976.


Mike built a dedicated career in the energy industry. After working at Bell Helicopter for four years in Amarillo, he transitioned to Amoco/BP when the family moved back to Perryton. His career took them to Beaver, Oklahoma, where they lived for 13 years before relocating to Farmington, New Mexico. After three decades of service with Amoco/BP, Mike retired in 2007. In 2009, he and Katrina moved to Surprise, Arizona, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.


A man of deep faith and devotion to God, Mike was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Beaver, Oklahoma, where he served on the youth board. His faith guided his life and was evident in the love and kindness he shared with those around him.


Mike had a lifelong passion for cars owning a remarkable total of 74 throughout his life. He also loved playing tennis with his family both recreationally and competitively before transitioning to golf. He especially enjoyed golfing with his brother-in-law Sam Lilly and many friends. Family vacations were another cherished tradition; he delighted in traveling across the United States with his loved ones on yearly trips.


Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Katrina Agler; his son Ryan Agler and wife Melanie of Mesa, Arizona; his daughter Courtney Agler of Surprise, Arizona; his only granddaughter Caity Brelsford of Surprise, Arizona, his first born grandson Caleb Brelsford also of Surprise, Arizona, his second and third grandsons, Riley Agler and Graidy Agler both of Mesa Arizona his brother Mark Agler and wife Janice of Waco Texas; his sister-in-law Connie Lilly of Higgins, Texas; nephews Sean Agler of Waco, Texas, and Jason Lilly of Perryton, Texas; nieces Lori Miller and husband Griffin of Waco, Texas, and Rayne Lilly of Amarillo, Texas; as well as one great-nephew and three great-nieces. He is also survived by two aunts, numerous cousins, and many dear friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Nita Agler; his father-in-law Bill Lilly and mother-in-law Hazel Lilly; his paternal grandparents Glen and Alma Agler; maternal grandparents Daniel and Hazel Kempton; and his brother-in-law Sam Lilly.


A Celebration of Life will be held on April 5, 2025, at Christ's Church of the Valley (CCV), located at 23601 N 163rd Ave in Surprise, Arizona. The service will begin at 9:30 AM.


Mike will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his deep love for his family, his service to his country, and the joy he brought to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever held in the hearts of those who loved him.
